International containers come in 3 sizes:                     FAQs

20' which is 19'4" long inside;                

40' which is 39'4" long inside;  The inside width is 92" wide and 93" high.  The door opening is 92" wide and 89" high

 

 

45' which is 44' 4" long inside.;  The inside width is 90" wide and 105" high.  The door opening is 90" wide and 101" high


Although a container can handle weights in excess of 60,000 pounds, U.S. laws limit the highway weight to a total of 80,000 pounds. If we subtract 19,000 Lbs for the truck, 8,000 Lbs for the chassis and 8,800 Lbs for the empty container, we are left with 44,200 Lbs for cargo. Unfortunately there are laws limiting that weight by restricting the amount of weight over each axle. Usually a weight of 40,000 Lbs can be properly distributed to stay legal.
